[Miscellaneous] Moving sucks part 4

I really, really hope that this is the last part of this post series. At least for this particular house move. Because I'm fed up, and I'm not sure what else can go wrong.

It's not all bad though. My brother and dad brought me a load of stuff that I'd left at my parents house , which is mostly sitting in boxes still, but at least it's here. They also brought me a computer table which has been pressed into service as the TV and Xbox stand, and DVD storage, as well as a small table. So at least I now have somewhere to eat.

I also have internet, which is nice. It wasn't easy though. First of all I spent ages working out what my best option was, eventually going with Sky Broadband. I've used Sky in the past when I was an undergraduate, and their service seemed reasonable then as far as I can remember. Plus it was a 12 month rather than 18 month contract, and worked out slightly cheaper than BT. Getting it sorted wasn't easy though. I was, unsurprisingly, away when the router was delivered, so only picked it up from the (stupidly located) delivery office a few days later. I then installed it, which was dead easy, but nothing was happening. I tried the automatic help, but that didn't work. So I had to call the helpline and ask them for advice. Shockingly, I got someone in the UK - Scotland to be precise - who was actually really helpful. We couldn't fix the problem, but they escalated my issue, and the next day I had a call from someone else who figured out that it was the phone line that was the problem. So I had a BT tech come out to fix it, and I now actually have broadband!

The other saga has been my fridge-freezer. When I moved in I wasn't sure if it was working or not, but after getting back from my weekend in Glasgow I decided that it definitely wasn't. If you're keeping score that was three weeks ago. Unfortunately it took a week for the estate agent and landlord to do anything, by which point I was going to St Andrews for my viva for a week. The Monday after I got back from that I had a workman come round and take a look at it. He didn't need long; after 15 minutes he said that the motor was fried, and it was uneconomical to repair. Fine, a new fridge it is.

Except that after his company, and I, both called the estate agents, it took the rest of the week for my landlord to sort out a new one! Ridiculous. In this day and age, not providing your tenant with working fridge is inexcusable. I do now have a fully operational fridge-freezer, so it got sorted in the end, but I'm still angry about how long it took. Admittedly me being away for a week didn't help, but once it was obvious that it needed replacing I'd have expected something to be done more quickly.

Anyway, now that I've got those two sorted out it's just a question of gradually unpacking and getting furniture. Everything's out of storage now, so I'm in box heaven, but I'd prefer it to look more like a flat at some point!
