[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] Still kicking

Image
Hmmm, when did I last do an update on this challenge *looks at date on previous post* - April! Sheesh. So much for my 'monthly update plan' that I had at the start of this! I'm going to play the 'real-life' card here. Although I've got a reasonable amount done since my last update, August was pretty much a washout with flathunting for my new job. Then I had to start said job, move (twice), attend a conference, defend my PhD thesis, and deal with some personal issues in September and the start of October. I'm only just resettling into some vague resemblance of a routine, and my new flat is finally looking like someone lives there rather than a squatter's residence! So I haven't forgotten about Venethrax and his dragon slaying posse. Before the upheaval I got the Mechanithrall unit quite far along, and the Lich Lord himself isn't looking too bad either. I just haven't been able to work on them over the last couple of months. ...

[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] 2nd tournament report

Image
It's been a good period for my wargaming recently. I've been getting some decent painting time in, and I've even managed to get some games of Warmachine in! At the end of last month I went to a 35pt tournament at Highlander Games in Dundee, and yesterday I travelled to my second tournament of the year. This time the format was a 50pt Steamroller, with reinforcements for all games and deathclock. I really enjoyed playing with reinforcements under Steamroller 2012, so was pleased to get the chance to break them out again. I was also looking forward to trying deathclock timing for the first time, having only ever experienced timed turns. In the end it was a small tournament, only 8 players, but a lot of fun.

[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] Post-tournament thoughts

Image
Now that I've had my first few games with Venethrax (at the tournament last Saturday ), I've got a bit more of an idea of how he plays and what I can do with him. I've also had time to think about the army that I want to run with him, and might be giving my current list a few tweaks. In any case, I thought I'd put pen to paper and document some of my musings and lessons learnt.

[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] Update and tournament report

I've been slacking a bit with my Lost Hemisphere Challenge, but I knew that was going to happen. The end of February and first two-thirds of March were always going to be pretty much a write off owing to the RLSS Speeds, conferences, and organising the BULSCA Champs eating up all of my free time for nearly a month. Then I came home and had to observe for a week! But this week I've been getting back into the swing of it, with some painting progress and my first games with Venethrax!

[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] Initial lists

Image
It's time for part 3 of the post series chronicling my (possibly misguided) attempt at Lost Hemisphere's Most Epic Unloved Model Challenge 2013. My introduction post can be found here , and some musing on Venethrax and the options available to me can be found here . For this post I'm going to take a look at the lists that I've come up with. These are my initial ideas, and will probably change after some play experience, but in the end my options are limited somewhat by the restrictions of the theme force.

[Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013] Thoughts on Venethrax and his theme force

It’s time for the next instalment of my Lost Hemisphere Challenge, and since this is going to be year-long series of posts I’ve decided to create new heading. It’s been a couple of weeks since I signed up to the challenge, and it may seem as though I’ve been slacking off. I’ve actually been rather busy doing some background research. I read Lamoron’s blog posts chronicling his experiement with Venethrax over at “The Overseer”, I read GentleBen’s post at “Bell of Lost Souls”, I watched several YouTube video battlereports featuring Venethrax, mostly from bitzandpiecesNL , and I re-listened to the Chain Attack podcast of Venethrax vs. Reznik . Today I want to share some of my thoughts and conclusions based on that research.

[Wargaming] Lost Hemisphere Challenge 2013

Image
It's been a long, long time since I posted anything to do with wargaming. There are a few reasons for this. First, I didn't really get much painted for large parts of last semester, and I lost all of the motivation that I'd built up over the summer. Second, all of the events that I wanted to attend clashed with lifesaving competitions. So I haven't played any games in months. Third, I was getting more into boardgames again, sparked in part by the realisation that my brother likes them too, and the greater convenience of carrying them around (for example, taking them to my parents' for Christmas). However, something has cropped up on one of the podcasts that I listen to that has really got me excited, and that will hopefully provide me with some structure to my wargaming for 2013. This will hopefully be the first in many posts concerning  Lost Hemisphere's Unloved Model Challenge , which I've signed up for. What have you gotten me into LHR? *Shakes ...
