[Sport] NHL PLayoffs 2013 - Stanley Cup Final

Image
[I'm trying out something new for my NHL playoffs series this year. Since there are so many games, I'm going to watch the highlights each day and jot down some thoughts on each one. I'll add a summary of each series once it's decided, and put up the post when the round is complete.] The conference finals didn't quite live up to their billing in a lot of ways. There were some great games, but it was little disappointing overall as far as the quality of the series went. But the matchup of the Boston Bruins against the Chicago Blackhawks in the final looked scintillating. How did it play out?

But whilst there were some good games, the round as a whole didn't really live up to expectations.

It certainly didn't go according to my predictions!

Round 1 of the NHL playoffs is over, but there's no let up in the schedule. Round 2 starts tonight, so I thought it would be interesting to look at the matchups and see what's in store for this set of series.

There's been some great ice hockey being played, so how did the series go for the teams that participated? My apologies in advance - Blogger ate some of the game summaries, so there are a few missing.

[Sport] NHL Playoffs 2013 - the teams

It's that time of the year again - the Stanley Cup playoffs are here! I'm going to do a round by round review again this year, but I'll probably vary the format a bit from last year. My rough plan is to give short comments on each game of every series, every round. These will almost certainly be based purely off the highlights from the NHL's Youtube channel ; with my thesis writing in progress, I can't really afford to be staying up to odd hours watching ice hockey! But that's to come. Today I wanted to get down some brief thoughts about the 16 teams that have made the playoffs.

[Sport] The NHL is back. Finally.

Normally whilst the circus performance that is the NFL season and playoffs takes place I pay little attention to the NHL. I might check up on it every now and then to see how my favourite teams are getting on, but the ice hockey season is normally so long that I tend to ignore it until the end of the season draws near, and the playoff picture starts to take shape. This year though I've paid both more and less attention to goings on in the NHL than previously. If this sounds odd, don't worry; I shall explain. [Sport] NHL Playoffs 2012: Champions!

Image
I've just realised that I never actually posted about the results of the final series in the NHL playoffs. Woops! To be honest, I was incredibly busy around the time that the series was being played out, and didn't get to see any of it. Nor did I get around to watching the highlights on Youtube of the NHL website, as I had been doing for the previous rounds, so it all passed my by really. Nevertheless, congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings on winning the 2012 Stanley Cup. I think that they were the rank underdogs going into the playoffs, but they played well throughout. In every series they jumped out to a commanding lead through tough, physical hockey, and then held on to win. Perhaps not the most spectacular team, they seemed to be the most consistent from what I saw, and ultimately that's what wins championships. The LA Kings with Lord Stanley's cup. (Credit: prweb.com)

[Sport] NHL Playoffs 2012: And the Conference winners are?

Image
Another week, and another round of the NHL playoffs for this year are over and done. Who's made it through to challenge for Lord Stanley's cup? Well I'd be completely lying if I said that it's two teams that were predicted to be there at the start of the playoff season. The Los Angeles Kings have continued their somewhat unexpected run deep into the playoffs. I say somewhat unexpected, because after seeing them dominate their first two series you really had to expect them to do well against the Phoenix Coyotes. Much as in those previous series however, I was disappointed with their opponents. I was expecting much stiffer opposition from the Coyotes than they provided, and in the end it seemed as though the Kings had it all pretty much their own way, winning the series 4-1. That scoreline doesn't really tell the whole story though. Yes, on the surface it seems as though the Kings romped their way to victory. But from what I saw of the games they were hard f...

So it's that time again. The conference semi-finals of the NHL playoffs are over, and I'm going to take a look at what went on and who's left to fight for Lord Stanley's cup. This is going to be fairly short, as I didn't actually get to watch much of what was happening

[Sport] NHL Playoffs 2012: End of round 1

The last couple of games of the first round of the NHL playoffs were completed last night, and what a first round it's been. No clean sweeps (which is great to see), two series that went to the full seven games, loads of tense overtime finishes, and some upsets as well.

The NHL ice hockey playoffs started yesterday, and it looks like being a good year for the Stanley Cup. There are some familiar faces in there, but also some surprises.
