[Wargaming] Convergence of Cyriss release event

Yesterday I travelled down to Worlds at War in Livingston for the first of two Convergence of Cyriss release events for Warmachine that I'll be attending. It was great to break out the Warmachine models again, and I had a lot of fun.

Back in January, Privateer Press announced that they would be releasing a new faction for Warmachine as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for that game. That faction was the Convergence of Cyriss, a splinter-group of a a larger political entity that's been in the background of the Iron Kingdoms since day 1. The official release for the first wave of models was last week, and as is usual for Privateer Press, the release of the new book was accompanied by an organised play event.

Like the other book release events it was a free-play event. Basically, there's a prescribed scenario, points level, and army composition restriction, but you play as many games as you want/can fit in to the day. You earn points for playing games, modelling scenery, and completing various challenges. This time around the scenario was a fairly simple one involving a power node that was basically a super-arcnode and control range amplifier, and the games were 25pt mangled metal, caster kill affairs, with a choice of upgrades available for one of your warjacks/warbeasts. Details of the event can be found on the Privateer Press website here.

I managed to get 6 games in, winning only 2 of them, but scored a total of 24points. Unfortunately this didn't win me a medal, as the highest score was 31 points, scored by someone who completed all of the challenges and won most of their games. I did come 2nd though, which was nice.

A quick run down of the games I played:
  • Game 1: Played Skarre1 vs Mortenebra. Managed to box Mortenebra in with a pair of Helldivers, before taking a Seether to the face. Loss
  • Game 2: Played Skarre2 vs Kraye. Put a lot of hurt on Kraye over several round via shooting, but couldn't seal the deal. Eventually ended with only Skarre2 against three heavy Warjacks and Kraye, and died to a Defender's hammer. Loss
  • Game 3: Played Venethrax vs Kaya2. Destroyed the power node in the middle of the board, which left me completely open. One Warpwolf Stalker (buffed to ridiculous levels) later, I'd lost all three heavy warjacks. Left it on one damage with Venethrax, who went down. Loss
  • Game 4: Played Deneghra1 vs Skarre1. My swarm of bonejacks was causing him issues, and he bricked up to avoid the Helldivers, which left his army wide open to my feat. A couple of Nightwretch shots and arced venoms later, and Skarre was dead. Win
  • Game 5: Played Skarre2 vs Syntherion. His heavies were having trouble dealing with my crabjacks, and I was slowly chipping away at Syntherion's health with shooting. Eventually chased him down with an arcnode. Win
  • Game 6: Played Deneghra1 vs Morghoul1. The Mammoth didn't like the combination of feat, crippling grasp, and curse of shadows, but my armour piercing attacks were poor so it took a turn longer to kill than I wanted. Only Morghoul was left, but he legged it across the board to engage Deneghra, and took her down the next turn. A very silly game. Loss

Overall it was a fun day, although it didn't do my win-loss ratio much good! It was also incredibly warm in the shop, despite there only being 7 of us there. We're in the middle of small heat wave in the UK at the moment, and it was not the ideal weather for playing Warmachine. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the second release event in two weeks time.
