[Yearly Review 2012] Part 3 – 2013 aims and goals

After my post looking back at 2012, it’s time to look towards the future. As I’ve done for the last few years I’m going to set myself some goals to work towards for the year. Not resolutions as such, but guidelines to help me structure my time a bit. My goals will be split into several categories, and are shaped by how close I got to similar goals in previous years.

General
Sort out my life post St Andrews (This one's a soft goal, as I don't really have a choice)
Save at least £2000 (I managed this handily in 2012, but it'll be harder in 2013 as I eat into my savings)
Maintain my weight at 12st
Write some games reviews on this blog.

Work
Decide on my initial career direction. (To postdoc, or not to postdoc. That is the question.)
Finish my PhD. (Again, I don't really have a choice on this one!)
Publish my fourth paper.

Reading
Read 30 fiction books. (I've reduced this goal a bit from previous years to match my reading trend.)
Read 5 non-fiction books.
Replace my e-reader. (I miss having it for travelling.)
Buy some bookshelves (I really need somewhere to put all of my books)

TV and film
Watch two TV series from my collection. (I'd like to make it through some of the backlog I've built up)
Watch at least 3 films from my collection.

Wargaming
Paint 26 models (This is steady from 2012, even though I didn't get anywhere near that)
Finish painting my Aquan Prime fleet
Finish painting my 50pt Deneghra list. (Carried over from 2012)
Build my WW2 tanks. (Carried over from 2012)
Participate in at least one tournament (I really enjoyed the ones I attended in 2012, so I'd like to do more)
Play at least one game of at least two different systems

Board gaming
Play at least five new games

Computer gaming
Finish 2 games single-player (Easily managed this last year. Lets see if I can do it again)
Play online multiplayer at least once

Lifesaving
Improve at least two Personal Bests.
Run a successful BULSCA Championships event. (If it's not successful, I'll get it in the neck)
Win at least one medal at the Scottish Short Course. (I want to repeat my success from last year)
Win a BULSCA league medal. (Unlikely, but I'll be optimistic)
Fully qualify as a Survive & Save Trainer-Assessor.
Train a new captain for the St Andrews Seacows. (They need someone to take over when I leave)

Lets see how I get on this year!
